Short version: LocalFlix does not collect, receive or sell any personal data. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Your library, watch history and video files stay on your phone. The app only goes online to fetch artwork from TMDB (if you choose to) and to handle a Premium purchase through Google Play.
1. Who we are
LocalFlix ("LocalFlix", "we", "us") is an Android app that organises and plays video files already stored on your device. It is made by an independent developer and published on Google Play.
This policy explains what the app does with information, which is very little, and where your information goes, which is nowhere we can see it.
2. What data we collect
None. We do not receive any information from the app. We have no servers that the app reports to, and we never see your library, what you watch or how you use LocalFlix.
To work, the app keeps the following on your phone only:
- Your library: titles, seasons and episodes, and the names and locations of the video files you add.
- Watch history: playback positions and watched or unwatched status.
- Details and artwork fetched from TMDB, if you use that feature, including cached poster, backdrop and cast images.
- Your TMDB API key, if you add one.
- Your settings, such as library filters and sort order, and whether you own Premium.
3. Where your data lives
Everything listed above is stored in the app's private storage on your device, in a local database and a small number of local files. Other apps cannot read it.
- Your TMDB API key is kept in Android's encrypted storage.
- LocalFlix opts out of Android's automatic cloud backup, so your library is not copied to a Google account by the app.
- Nothing is synchronised to any server.
4. Your video files
LocalFlix can only see the folders and files you choose through Android's own file picker. It plays your videos where they are.
- Your videos are never uploaded, copied elsewhere or modified.
- Removing a show, episode or movie from your library never deletes the video file from your device.
- You can withdraw folder access at any time in Android's settings for the app.
5. Internet access
Your library and the player work without an internet connection. The app connects to the internet in only two situations:
TMDB artwork and details (optional)
If you add your own TMDB API key, LocalFlix asks The Movie Database (TMDB) for posters, descriptions and cast. Each request contains the title name and year that LocalFlix read from your file name, plus your API key. Artwork is then downloaded from TMDB's image servers and saved on your phone. As with any website, TMDB can see your device's IP address when it receives these requests. TMDB's handling of that information is covered by the TMDB privacy policy. If you never add a TMDB key, LocalFlix never contacts TMDB.
This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
Google Play purchases
Buying or restoring Premium goes through Google Play Billing (see section 6).
What LocalFlix never does
- No analytics, crash reporting or usage tracking.
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
- No accounts, sign-in or email collection.
6. Premium purchases
Premium is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Google Play. We never receive your name, email address or payment details. The app only learns from Google Play whether your account owns Premium, and stores that yes or no on your phone.
Google's handling of your purchase is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.
7. Opening a video in another app
If a video won't play in LocalFlix, you can tap Open in another player. Only then, and only for that one file, Android gives the app you choose (for example VLC or MX Player) temporary permission to read the video. LocalFlix does not send that app anything else. The other app's own privacy policy applies to what it does.
8. Permissions
- Internet: for optional TMDB artwork and for Google Play purchases.
- Google Play Billing: to buy and restore Premium.
- Folder and file access: granted through Android's file picker, only for the folders and files you choose.
LocalFlix does not request access to your contacts, location, camera, microphone or notifications, and it does not request broad access to all the photos, videos or files on your device.
9. Backup and restore
You can save a backup of your library to a folder you choose. The backup file contains your library, including the names and locations of your video files, and your watch history. It does not contain the videos themselves or your TMDB API key.
The backup is a plain file that you control. It is not encrypted, so keep it somewhere you trust. Once saved, it is outside LocalFlix's control.
10. Children
LocalFlix is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly interact with them. The app collects no personal data from anyone, of any age.
11. Your rights
Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export or delete on our side. Everything is on your device and under your control:
- Settings → Clear library removes your library and watch history from the app. Your video files stay on your device.
- Uninstalling LocalFlix removes everything the app stored, including your TMDB key and cached artwork.
- Folder access can be withdrawn at any time in Android's settings.
For information held by TMDB or Google, please contact them directly using the policies linked above.

13. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with an updated date. If LocalFlix ever needed to collect any data, we would say so clearly in the app and on this page before doing so.
